LEED Tutoring - LRT

LEED Tutoring - LRTThe LEED (Leadership for Educational Development) Tutoring program is one of the more successful of the multiple ELL programs available. It is not only an excellent way to earn a Master's Degree but also helps prepare students for advanced courses and professional positions in their chosen field. ELL (English Language Learners) can be said to be a broad term encompassing several other factors, including immigrants, single parents, single mothers, and single fathers. If you are a student enrolled in an accredited school, the Counseling and Learning Network (CLEN) might be a good place to begin your search for an LTT (Level Two) student tutor. The CLEN accreditation process is overseen by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). After your application has been accepted, CLEN will contact you. At this point, you will be assigned to a tutor, depending on which group you belong to.LEED tutoring may include courses on the following subjects: history, literat ure, science, math, computers, history, political science, anthropology, sociology, business, psychology, social work, foreign languages, as well as ethics and criminal justice. Courses for ELL will often cover such topics as: literature, science, history, and math. Based on your particular interests, you may have many areas of focus, depending on your career goals.A student with ELL, after entering into an accredited program may find that a couple of years later, he or she is ready to be placed in a group of other students who have the same level of interest in the same subject area. And because the subject area is so broad, the student will have a wider variety of subjects to choose from as well as some programs offer a wide array of special topics.Pockets of students are often grouped by the aptitudes of the individual, based on their intelligence and talents. Inthis type of course, an individual is expected to study in a group, in which all of his or her aptitudes are better rep resented than those of another student.Although the term 'elders' usually refers to people who are over the age of forty, the term ELL (English Language Learners) is appropriate for those who are three years old. An ELL student often has very limited vocabulary skills and may have trouble understanding what the teacher is saying. A few points of reference to help you evaluate how far you have come in the course of your education:In conclusion, LTT (Level Two) tutoring, whether it is an online or in-class program, is a good way to complete an LRT (Master's Degree) in Teaching and Education. Students who enroll in an LTT program will have all of the tools they need to excel in their career choices, and will be able to become much more prepared for their future careers. While many more options are available today, an educational program such as this can help to prepare you for a rewarding career.

Happy Holidays from all of us at italki!

Happy Holidays from all of us at italki! When italki was created way back in 2007  ,  our vision was to create a world in which everyone can be fluent in another language by  connecting with people. When you create a community that spans the world, you’ll end up hearing lots of stories. What starts with strangers learning from each other, can ultimately lead to many unexpected experiences. One of our favorite stories is when one our italki Community Moderators, Jura, actually published a book because of her interactions with our community.  Well, our Christmas gift came early when we received her book. Actually many our users have written into us to tell us their stories of how italki has helped them learn a new language.  We decided that we should have a place to tell the rest of the world what is happening on italki so we created a special website just for this purpose.  We hope these stories will inspire and motivate you to learn a foreign language, and connect yourself with the world! (Click on the link below to read all the stories!) stories.italki.com So as we head into the last few days of 2013, everyone here at italki (all the way out in Shanghai, China) wants to thank every single one of you for making italki into one of the best places to learn a foreign language. The Most Influential People Who Never Lived

The Most Influential People Who Never Lived Photo by ALA Staff via Flickr. The idea of experience-taking, and the fact that voters were able to identify so quickly with a first person narrative, begs us to question the effects long-time and well known, popular characters have on us. For instance, if you think back to one of your favorite characters, be it from a novel or movie, you will probably recall certain events the character went through that made you empathize with them. This empathy plays a large role in how we bond and identify with characters and causes their experiences to feel real because weve been through a similar experience ourselves. “We’d have no way of processing a character cognitively if we didn’t have experiences with people outside of the fictional world,” explained  Howard Sklar, post doctoral researcher in the English Philology Unit at the University of Helsinki in an article on character bonding. “The experiences with fictional characters resonate with us because of the fact that we’ve had deep experiences with people throughout our lives,” he said. We begin to sympathize with characters and invest ourselves in their well-being, just as we would family members or friends, which gives us the distinct impression, even if only for a moment, that theyre real people. In fact, as the article suggests, we may even know these characters more deeply than even our loved ones, as we tend to fill in the gaps of their past and then get a glimpse into their most private thoughts and compulsions, causing us to fully know their personality. “If you can get people to relate to characters in this way, you might really open up their horizons, getting them to relate to social groups that maybe they wouldnt have otherwise,” Lisa Libby,  assistant professor of psychology at The Ohio State University,  told the Edmonton Journal. Libby makes a great point in how its possible, through using more storytelling and experience-taking techniques, that we can begin to pave a way for not only students, but for a vast majority of individuals to begin seeing groups outside of their circles and cliques in a different light. Also, knowing their effect, we can begin to see how fictional characters possibly did have a role in creating some of our modern technological advances and social culture, and how their ideas could spur certain trains of thought in innovative individuals. After all, ideas occur in the realm of fiction before theyre conceived; maybe it takes the push of a beloved characters personality to follow them through.

Learning English in Brazil

Learning English in BrazilIf you are looking for a great language learning opportunity in Brazil that will work to help you learn English, then you have come to the right place. The Brazilian government has now established an online course for the English speakers of Brazil.Although the intention of the government is to provide English courses for Brazilians who need a language to help them advance their careers, the current conditions do not allow a language degree to be used in the workplace. In fact, there are only two official universities in Brazil that teach English and one is in Sao Paulo. If you are interested in learning English as part of your job, it is wise to first look at other options. For instance, some hotels and hostels in Brazil have English courses which would be the perfect opportunity for you to learn this wonderful language. The advantage is that if you want to advance in your career, you could get a better paying job.A second opportunity to learn English can be found in the many tourists that visit Brazil each year. These tourists are mostly from America and UK. You can expect to find many English speaking people in these groups so if you want to improve your chances of securing better jobs, it would be a good idea to learn the language so that you are not a potential language barrier for them. Many local Brazilians also speak English and they are usually looking for foreigners to learn this language so if you come to Rio de Janeiro, you can expect to find a language exchange or a tour group whose sole purpose is to give tourists an opportunity to learn English. The downside to these groups is that they only teach the basics and some of them also have a lack of skill in teaching English. Therefore, you will have to show some initiative in deciding how much you want to pay for this experience. Finally, if you have the time and the dedication, you can decide to go on a class abroad or learn English in Brazil by taking online courses. This met hod is often recommended to those who need to find a second job after their full-time job because they will be able to focus on learning English instead of working for the rest of their lives.Hopefully, this article has given you some good options for you to improve your chances of succeeding in your learning of English in Brazil. Learning a second language can be fun but it does require you to work hard and devote some time to it. It may not always be easy but if you are willing to put in the time and effort, you can get the result you are looking for.

5 Crucial Study Skills for Middle School

5 Crucial Study Skills for Middle School Suzy S. Middle school is a great time to identify your learning style and strengthen your overall study skills. Read on as Decatur, GA tutor Ezra A. shares his top tips for success One of the most important factors determining a person’s success is their ability to learn â€" and many strong learners begin by developing study skills in middle school. In a world that just gets busier and busier, students need efficient ways to learn. Sure, you could hammer a chapter into your skull by reading it 10 times, but youll hate it and lifes too short to hate learning new things. I taught for 13 years, and throughout that time, the most efficient students I knew all used these study skills for middle school. Get Organized Every honor roll student I taught had one place where he wrote everything down. For one of them, it was a notebook that she carried from class to class. For another, it was an actual school calendar (some places call this an agenda), and every day had notes about classwork, special events, and other things he thought were important. This can look different for each student, so find a way to make this work for you. Use Flashcards Successful students with strong study skills in middle school almost always used flashcards.  Every subject has knowledge you just have to learn vocabulary, formulas, facts, or steps in solving a problem. Research tells us that its easiest to learn by repeatedly quizzing yourself, and notecards are a great way to test your knowledge. Research also shows that the best results come from writing a question on one side of the card and its answer on the other side and keeping the answers short. Having a bigger stack of notecards is better than having notecards with lots of words on one side. Read the Whole Chapter Sure, you can scan the material for the answers to the questions, scribble the answers, and call the homework finished. Unfortunately, this kind of reading is only efficient for one assignment â€" and that’s not efficient! If you get in the habit of reading the whole chapter, you will soon see how facts are part of a theme, and how a theme is part of a larger theme, and how a discovery in one place affects a discovery in another place. You’ll enjoy what you learn because you will see for yourself how important something becomes when seen as part of something else â€" which is the point of learning study skills for middle school! Prepare, Prepare, Prepare! Sometimes, you get to a test and discover you don’t know the material as well as you thought. This happens to everyone, and the students least affected by such a surprise shared this trick with me: they prepared themselves for the hardest test they could imagine. One student who excelled in Spanish vocabulary learned all the words on flashcards, then created new sentences using each word, and finally challenged herself to use her new vocabulary words in a single paragraph. By the time she got to the test, she was ready for anything! Master Time Management Finally, another one of the best study skills for middle school students to master is to make time your friend, not your enemy. How? Study before you ‘have’ to study. Think of it like this: if a test is three days away, and if you’d normally cram everything into your head over an hour, try studying 30 minutes tonight, and see how much time you need to study tomorrow night to feel ready (hint: it’s probably less than 30 minutes). Since you’re ready for the test a whole day early, you can add another 15 minutes of review the night before the test, just to stay sharp. The students I know who approach tests like this usually make high A’s â€" and they don’t waste time stressing out about the test! They build confidence by preparing early and using the additional time for relaxed reinforcement of what they’ve learned. Use these study skills for middle school, and as studying becomes a habit, you’ll find learning not only fun, but something you look forward to doing every day. With the right tools for learning, you (or your child) will finish 8th grade and enter high school with the ability to face and overcome â€" any challenge life sends your way. After 13 years in the classroom, Ezra A. spends his time tutoring a variety of subjects (online or in the Atlanta area), preparing for a new career as a physician, and spending time with his beautiful wife and two dogs.
